Cedrus Amaranthe

Cedrus Amaranthe is a wild child with a distaste for politics and an appreciation for the simpler, more "rustic" things in life.

Cedrus could be considered quite atypical by Onuban standards. Though lacking in any especially promising wit or charm, the Amaranthe man is of a hardy, good-natured sort, if not aloof at times. That being said, he displays an Amaranthe's arrogance — even haughtiness — and is no stranger to jealousy. He can be extremely competitive when it comes to it, and is easily riled up by challenge. Cedrus's protective instincts preside not only over his friends and loved ones, but his property and standing.

Prone to moodiness, the dog's demeanor tends to vary from day to day. As much as he may want to, Cedrus is able to maintain few grudges. He prides himself upon reputation and will go out of his way to make sure that he has fulfilled any and all debts that he may owe. And, as he takes his word quite seriously, the spaniel refuses to breed false hope. But despite a realistic expression, Cedrus finds wide-eyed idealism charming — as these qualities remind him of himself in younger years — and is easily manipulated by those who exhibit such an outlook. Inwardly, he still maintains that strong sense of optimism.

4.  History

Born into a branch of the Amaranthe dealing with horses and livestock, Cedrus's upbringing did not share in typical Onuban fashion — at least not in concern to his heritage. A middle child within the household's most recent litter, Cedrus often felt overshadowed by his siblings. The great pride he took in his work was not enough to deter such feelings of jealousy, and so the boy threw himself into numerous pursuits, hoping to bring some sort of recognition to his achievements. Still, a part of him sought to forge his own path, far from Onuba's fleeting, shallow exchanges, in a place free of the restraints of courtliness.

After some time, the Amaranthe man grew complacent. But when the meek, timid Camellia embarked on an adventure of her own — accompanying Thalia on her expedition to the faraway Nova Scotia — Cedrus was newly invigorated. Upon the party's return, he was more so shocked to find that Camellia had stayed behind. It was then that Cedrus made his plans to depart, both itching to blaze his own trail and concerned for the well-being of his good-intentioned, but bumbling cousin. Taking with him a small cache of belongings, Cedrus left the shining port town onboard a trade ship.
