Aside from the arctic fox, which is not Luperci-capable, Iceland has no native canine population, and domestic dogs were banned on the island from 1924 - 1984 (source). As such, dogs were still relatively uncommon in 1988, when humans died. In isolation and with little to no competition for resources, Iceland's dogs bred and grew in number quickly. Most of the island's population remained in and around Reykjavik, whose structures provided shelter against the area's long and harsh winters.

Sheep, fish, and seafowl comprise most islanders' diets.
