1.  Description

The City of Dragons is situated in the Forbidden City in the heart of the concrete ruins of the city that once went under the name Beijing. Through years of great effort the greatness and beauty of the area has returned and the majestetic buildings are for the most part dressed in hues of gold, royal purple and wine red; three of Doragon no Toshi's most sacred colors. Within the city's crystal blue water walls various plants, fruits and vegetables are grown to keep the city well provided. There is also a moderate number of lifestock, kept to satiate royal taste buds as well as to ensure the high families during famine. Around the city most part of Beijing is rapidly being reclaimed by nature, and there is a large variety of game available.

3.  Significant Characters & Families

  • The Sgiathatch is the high royal family of Doragon no Toshi.

4.  Culture

There are three main castes and then there are various subcastes within each and every caste.

4.1  Doragon no Chi

On the very top of the food chain the royal family sits. The Sgiathatch are related to Tianlong and Tanin themselves, and the hot blood of dragons flows strong through their veins. The Sgiathatchs are easily recognizable for all because of their unique appearance. Members of the Doragons are blessed with reds and oranges in their fur, varying from the hottest crimson to spun gold. As a final proof of their deity blood the Sgiathaths own eyes uniquelly dressed with the most sacred of colours: Purple; the colour of life and the very essence of Tianlong. Although the intensity in their hues varies, every member of the Doragons hold eyes of one or more of Tianlong's colours; Purple, red and occasionally flecks of hot gold. While there are various branches of fresh blood brought into the family throughout. One of the royal caste is not permitted to breed with the lower castes. It is a long tradition that brother and sister (or other immediate family) are mated together to ensure the continued purity of their sacred bloodline. Members of the royal caste that choose to devote their lives to Tianlong trains together with members of the caste below to become "the sacred voice of the heavenly".This is by far the smallest cast, as only close members of the Dragon that are granted the royal status.

While the lower castes are allowed to breed more freely, every family can only raise two children; one for each parent. This is to maintain the concentrated amount of both blood and fire intact. More details are listed below in Cermonies; Births

4.2  Doragon no Kioku

While there are various branches of fresh blood brought into the family throughout history, those not born a full blooded dragon are rarely included in the royal caste of blood of the dragon. This caste are for those that hold a certain percentage of the royal blood. Extended families born from members from the Sgiathatches claim the upper society beneath the full blooded royals, and here outside blood is less frowned upon. However, impure bonds lessens the quality of the dragon's blood and those who falter on the Path of Gold cause their children to take on their sins and drop in status. Those who are born down into the higher caste from the royal caste are not allowed to keep the royal name of the Sgiathatch, and are granted a new name by their former immediate family in the royal caste. While it is possible for families and individuals to fall and sometimes even rise a caste, only a handful in the history of the City of Dragons. Only those with so vivid gifts that they cannot be turned away may sporatically enter the royal caste. This, however, is EXTREMELY rare, and the royal child is immediately removed from its high family and adopted by the Sgiathatches. Their former family of the high caste are of course allowed to remain in the child's life, but they are no longer considered family.

4.3  Ningen no Chi

The caste for the commoners. This is the largest caste, those who through the sins of their parents hold only a memory of the blood of the holy three aspect dragon. This caste contains all those with luperci ortos blood regardless of their colours of shame. Wolves with common earthern tones belongs this mortal caste -- their lack of the sacred colours a stunning proof of their impure blood. Sporadically it happens that a child is born with the unique, fiery hue or with colours blessed by Tianlong, and these are usually taken from their parents and brought up to the upper caste. These are who most often hears the call of the heavenly and choose to pledge their lives to Tianlong and the great six as holy priests and priestesses, though they cannot step up to a position as a high priest/priestess. While they are banished from the wealth of the upper families because of their blood, these wolves live a content life as workers of a wide range, and those wealthier than others are even permitted to take own luperci verto servants.

4.4  Shi wo Manukare na

Not truly considered a caste, these are the lowest of the low. What initially separates these wolves from the rest of the society is their inability to shift. These are canis lupus, bound to wander the earth on all four, and they hold no status of their own. The Munakare are seldom allowed to enter Doragon no Kakusa itself and instead live outside of the crystal water walls as slaves, mostly hunting for the upper castes and doing basic labour work. While it is a miserable status to be born into, they are not necessarily chained to live through their lives as lowly, four legged slaves. Those who work hard to serve their royal masters may receive a promotion in the form of a bite and a donation of blood from the commoner caste. While a luperci verto holds only a slighter higher status than an ordinary wolf, they are usually permitted into the sacred city to work for the commoner caste and the high caste. They are marked as slaves and servants by having their right Achilles tendon cut. While a vertos’ life is as hard as a non-luperci’s, their offspring will be born into the commoner caste as luperci ortos. In such a strict world bound by rules and religion, most wolves will do whatever they can to work to let their ancestors gain a place in the great dynasty.

Government

The City of Hidden Dragon is governed by the two High Doragon, the ultimate ruler of the sacred dynasty of Dragons. These are always a mated pair of the Sgiathatch. While it is clearly a strict monarchy ruled by one dominant family, the Doragon offspring is raised with pressure that they are destined to rule the empire and these are educated well in every way there is. Through generations of inbreeding it has more than once been one Doragon born with the wicked flame of Tanin’s.

5.  The Hebism Religion

Those who belong to the hebism commonly go under the name deija, serpent. They believe that once the dragons lived peacefully amongst mortal on earth, and worship them as gods. Blessed by the good will of the mighty Tianlong, the canines consider themselves his children, and that the blood of the dragon flows through their mortal veins. There are nine dragon aspects and there once were nine full dragon gods; one for each colour. The numbers three and six are lucky numbers for the Deijas, while nine stands as a sacred number. While most count seven gods, many dismiss the white Usuino as one of the great dragons because she owns no color.

The Golden, the Purple and the Crimson

Tianlong “the heavenly” is the celestial dragon that is believed to guard the great city of Doraggon no Kakusa Reta Toshi and the dragon most worshipped by the daijan people . With golden scales made out of fire, crimson claws and mane made from blood, and purple from the deepest thunderclouds and the very color of life itself, Tianlong is cherished for his strength as well as for his immerse beauty. It is said that there once was one dragon for every of the three colors, but the ruler of the sun, Tianlong, devoured his two brothers Roelong of Wealth and strength and Cheilong of Life. And hence, empowered by his brothers Tianlong continued to rule the sky and pronounced the earth and its mortals as his property.

The ruler of the sun is known to be both kind and cruel. He shows kindness to his mortal children, but there is a price to pay for his blessings. Tianlong is the only dragon god strong enough to control his mate, Tanin the fire thief, and thus requires canine sacrifices to satiate the unknown as well as to feed from the flame of his people. Without Tianlong there would be no life, for all life is lent from his mighty being.

He is a strict god that will reward those who follows the path of gold, and punish those who stray from their righteous path. He is the final judge at the end of a mortal’s journey, and has the power to open all the nine golden gates to bring worthy souls to the kin no ten, heaven of gold. Those not worthy of his holy sanctuary in the skies are eaten by his mate and banished to spend an enternity in darkness and despair. Tianlong is also known as the father, Gold one and the sun and skies.

The Silver

Shenlong “the spirit” is the master of the sky; the one who controls the weather. Sleek and agile with brilliant, reflective scales made of spun silver, this long, elegant dragon twirls through the sky on the very winds that he commands. Though dressed in a darker hue than the daughter dragon born from his tears, Shenlong is a dragon known for his beauty. The reflection of the brilliant blue sky linger on his smooth scales and the worlds’ sunsets dances off his restless body as he wanders the skies day and night alike.

The Emerald

Haalong ”the mother earth” and “the weeping lover”. This dragon is spring and summer and the very mother earth herself; wearing brilliant hues of emerald upon her silky fur. Once mated to Cheilong of the purple aspect before he was devoured by his brother Tianlong, Haalong poured the tears of her broken heart down into earth and sowed the world with beauty. While the dark earth belongs to Ukete, it is she that encourages life in all forms to bloom. Haalong is also known as the dragon of love, but this is an emotion that encourages weakness in canines and thus she is also nicknamed “the soft” by the stricter and higher castes.

The Sapphire

Dilong “earth” control all water. In the form of a glistering blue sea serpent he twists through the oceans and shares his wealth; providing mortals with fresh water to drink and a myriad of tasty, water breathing prey. Lends his liquid body to the sky bound Shenlong so that the silver can weep down on earth and give birth to colourful rainbows.

The Ivory

Usuino ”the pale”, the white dragon created by Shenlong’s tears. This god is known for serenity and purity, though only in this dragon is the absent of glorious color accepted. Usuino can walk into the dreaming realm of mortals and bring them prophecies from Tianlong himself. When the time of burning colors is at its end she will twist through the sky and turn Shenlong’s rain into snow. This gentle dragon god is particularly adored by the lower castes of Doragon no Toshi; as she is of revered status despite that a lack of color is generally frowned upon. Lacking every color, this dragon is the weakest of the great seven.

The Ebony

Ukete “the taker”, a large, pelted dragon bound to earth by Shenlong’s sky. Draped in the colours of earth and soil, this is the only one of the six unable to fly. Sometimes referred to as the taker, as lore suggests he once tried to swallow the sun and his brother Tianlong before he claimed the purple and blue aspects and in return he lost his wings. Ukete takes the body when a wolf’s fire dies, but when he takes he also gives; keeping the earth nourished and helping nature grow. The low castes always sacrifice a quarter of what they take from earth when the crops stand heavy with fruit of Ukete’s labour.

The Unknown

Tanin ”the Stranger”, also known as the shadow and the fire thief . Mate to Tianlong. Amongst all the dragon gods, only Tianlong and Tanin are feared beyond certain degree. The taker of souls; Tanin is the dragon that collects the fire of life from a wolf’s chest and blows it up to Tianlong for the final judgement. When young, children will always be told that if they do not follow the path of gold, Tanin will come in the darkest hour of the night and douse their fire. Illustrations show off this dragon a beast forged by smoke and shadow. When Tianlong's light fade out, Tanin's shadow stretch across the sky in her search for ripe flames to return to her mate. This dragon is often accused when wolves are born with mental illnesses; it is said that she replaces a wolf's inner fire with some of her own.
