1.  Description

This native flowering herbaceous perennial is well known for its yellow flower heads. They turn into round balls of silver tufted fruits that disperse in the wind called "blowballs" or "clocks." It is very common.

Dandelions are also noted to be common flora in Marrgerd (Salsola territory).

1.1  Uses

  • Dandelion root is a registered drug in Canada, sold principally as a diuretic.

Edible

  • The greens are used in salads. They are probably closest in character to mustard greens. Raw leaves have a slightly bitter taste.
  • The flowers are used to make dandelion wine or a honey substitute syrup.
  • The roots have been used to make a coffee substitute (when baked and ground into powder).

Dye

  • Flowers can be used to create a yellow dye
  • Roots can be used to create a red-pink dye
