Skadi Eklund (SKAH-dee eek-LUU-nnd) is a Loner. Skadi was born to Ragna Eklund of Mistfell Vale, and is the sister of Steinarr Niequist and Sindri Eklund. A product of a casual, one-night stand in neutral territory, the children never knew of their sire, only knowing him as a handsome gypsy with a soldier's build by the name of Bastian Montgomery — an secretive alias belonging to Brocade Valentine, who was, unknowingly to their mother, a Salsolan; an old enemy of Ragna's before her time in the Vale. Ragna raised her pups as a single mother with aide from her marten companion, Glade, and, for a short time, everything was grand. Two month's after the litter's birth, however, in an attempt to live a new life apart from her violent past, Ragna spared a trespassing, coyote loner, only to have the male later return and murder Steinarr in a fit of rage and revenge. Although the mother righted her mistake, the damage had already been done to the family. Not long after Steinarr's unfortunate death, the family came across a black bear cub — named Einarr of Cathasach, and of the den of Brynhildr — who had recently lost his mother to a hunter's trap. Still grieving from her lost child, Ragna's motherly instincts drove her to accept the cub, and raise him alongside her own pups. Skadi, Sindri, and Einarr grew up as "siblings," and lived out a relatively normal childhood within the Vale until the pack was disbanded in June 2020. In the aftermath, Ragna and her children went northwest, traveling into Canada, the Great Plains, and the American Northwest. Skadi got to see and experience a great many of things, and met Luperci from all walks of life. When her mother passed away from injuries received in a fight in 2022, Skadi, Einarr, and Glade eventually found themselves returning to the northeast to see how things had (or had not) changed before their far-off journey west. |

There is no mistaking Skadi's ancestry; from how she carries herself to the air about her to her natural appearance, it is obvious that she is heavily wolf-blooded. Just as equally noticeable, however, is that she is mixed with something else. Her fur is not as bristly or bushy — instead, it is sleeker, crisp-edged, and more closely trimmed to her body by comparison, a trait owing to her dog genes on her mother's side. Her ears are also a bit taller and slightly more pointed than they are round compared to a wolf's as well. Her eyes are sharp, and often carry a chilly, feral confidence to them. Perhaps expected as a result of being the daughter of two soldiers, Skadi has a naturally lean and athletic build. Her work, along with her spars with her bear brother, Einarr, have helped her maintain this, as well as made her — often unexpectedly — stronger than most would assume of someone without bulging muscles. She carries herself with a cool confidence; and her being calm and deceptively relaxed may catch an overconfident individual off-guard when her reflexes and explosive violence prove that she is anything but a soft target. Skadi has silky, long hair that she often wears down, and parts her bangs off to one side. She wears custom, leather armor that has bear fur lining around the collar. Beneath these, she has a long, thigh-length, high-collared tunic that has slits in the sides starting at the waist. She has a hip quiver and bow, as well a pair of knives on her person.

With an ex-soldier and extremist as her mother, and Life as her cruel teacher, Skadi has grown to be something of a survivalist, and is largely desensitized to many things in her life thus far. She is no stranger to death, and is not above violence, nor is she above dishing out her own perceived justice. As a result, Skadi often falls into the morally grey, if not trending into black at times. In her mind, she's simply doing what is "necessary," though, all might not agree with her methods or ways of going about it. Her actions and way of thinking may cause other to see her as a cruel and violent individual, but Skadi has long since grown a tough outer skin to not be as effected by such accusations anymore. Having grown up with brothers and mostly males for playmates in her youth, Skadi is very much a tomboy. She likes to fight and wrestle, is not afraid to get dirty or hard labor, and may even be considered crass and unladylike by other women. In general, she is often more comfortable in the company of masculine-types than she is with those that are more effeminate, and often takes great offense to misogynist comments or assumptions being slung at her. Overall, Skadi carries herself with a confident and coolly collected edge. She can be social, and may even be playful with those she has grown comfortable with, but, in general, she has a deceptively calm, outward disposition. She was taught to be an observant individual, to calculate and perceive the world around her. After all, a wolf that lets down their guard is a dead one. |

With the life she's lived thus far, romance is not something that is a high priority for Skadi. She tends to keep others at a distance, always wary of the notion that individuals often come and go, and that Life has a tendency to rip away what will hurt the most to lose. As a result, most Luperci would likely find themselves "friend-zoned" by this strongly independent woman, and those that push too hard might find themselves on the other end of her knife. Skadi is someone who would have to have a strong, positive relationship built on respect and trust with another to open herself up, and would likely be unaware of her own feelings due to the environment that she grew up in (no role models). Disgusted at the thought of being used or possibly getting involved in complicated matters, Skadi is not the type to indulge in a one-night stand. |

Because of her mother and her own childhood, Skadi does not believe there is a higher being, and, if there is, they're cruel. She often finds the thought of religious faith to be weird and certainly not for her. She casually fancies the ideas of totems, spirits, and lucky charms though, if only for the concept of them. |

Description: Big boar. Scarred from fighting bears & Luperci. He has powerful shoulders and limbs, and his hooked claws allow him to scale trees with relative ease and alarming speed.
Note: Due to living with Luperci and having an ample access to food year round, Einarr does not hibernate in the winter months. He does, however, experience the occasional spurt of lethargy where he may sleep for a few days straight. During these colder and harsher winter months too, he is also more likely to be “hangry” and lash out if it has been a long time since his last meal.

History: He was born Einarr of Cathasach (father), and of the den of Brynhildr (mother), and lived his first few months of as a normal black bear cub. He was the only cub born to his mother that year, and she taught him the Luperci dialect of High Speech from when he first stepped foot out of their winter den. It had helped her avoid trouble in many years past, and she had hoped it might see her young cub to adulthood. Unfortunately, Brynhildr fell victim to a trapping pit in the Wabanaki Coast region. In the immediate aftermath, Einarr tried to help his mother, however, she forbid him to enter the pit with her, knowing it would be the death of the both of them. In her dying hours, she tried to reassure her cub, however, Einarr was adamant that he find help for her and frequently left her in search of it.
Three days passed before Einarr heard voices in the distance, voices that belonged to Ragna Eklund and her family [1]. He enlisted their help to save his mother, however, it was too late. Scared and alone, Einarr desperately pleaded that Ragna not leave him. Having recently lost her son, Ragna’s still-grieving motherly instincts allowed her to accept the bear cub into her family, where she raised him as if he were her own son.
Einarr is very attached to his Luperci family, and is protective of them.

Personality: Glade is the color to Ragna’s greyscale. He’s friendly and outgoing, and can be very talkative in comparison to his Luperci companion. He is a compassionate and loving soul despite the war, terror, and heartbreak he has seen in his life. He is someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand, and one to put others first (even when there’s food involved). Reliable, loyal, and brave, he is a desirable ally and companion to keep around. He likes to be included in things, and takes great offense when he is treated less than a Luperci.
He is not afraid to throw himself headfirst into danger, and is protective enough of those he loves to face off against something five or ten times his size. He loves Ragna dearly, and, wherever she goes, he will follow. His adoration for Ragna has sense extended to her children, Skadi, Sindri, and adopted “son,” Einarr. He is protective of them, and thinks of them as part of his responsibility too. When Ragna’s oldest son, Steinarr, was killed by a coyote while under his watch, Glade took it very hard.
History: Glade was one of three kits born to a pretty, single mother. Their father had left their mother relatively quickly after their conception, as was the marten way. She often spoke fondly of their mysterious paternal figure though, and frequently told the three boys of the "legacy" they'd have to fill. Glade and his brothers lived a relatively normal childhood; learning all things "marten" while constantly fighting each other like boys often did. They had been on the road to a successful rearing and were a little over a month or so away from their mother sending them out on their own into the world when tragedy struck their little family. The Luperci, two sides caught up in a war with one another, had moved their battleground to Glade's home territory.
Their pretty pelts had caught the eye of a particular individual, and, soon, the predators found themselves to be the prey. They called the Luperci the "Pelt-taker", for, he was donned in the skins of a multitude of animals. Glade's brothers were caught, killed, and skinned one by one; each one eventually being added to the Pelt-takers "skin." The little marten was determined to save and protect his mother until the warmongers moved on, and with it, hopefully the Pelt-taker. The martens moved from den to den in an effort to elude their pursuer, but, they were eventually found. The Pelt-taker tore their den apart, and the two martens were forced to fight back. In an effort to save her last remaining son, his mother sacrificed herself so that Glade could live to see another day. Young, alone, devastated, scared, and overcome with grief from his losses, Glade's attempts at avoiding the Pelt-taker were sloppily made, and, eventually, he too was found.
As the Pelt-taker came upon him though, a whistle shot through the air, and the Luperci fell to his knees, grasping his throat. The scent of blood suddenly coated the air, and, as Glade dove for cover, two figures appeared out of the dark shadows of the night. They too, were Luperci, but, judging from their short ears, they appeared to be from the "enemy" side of the Pelt-taker's. They descended upon the Pelt-taker, relieving him of his weaponry and second "skin." They conversed and left. Curious about his unknown saviors--and afraid that there may be more Pelt-takers after him--Glade followed them back to their camp.
Later on, Glade found out the two individuals to be a young Ragna Eklund and one of her older brothers. The marten followed them around, feeling an odd sense of protection when near them or their short-eared comrades. Eventually, his luck at remaining unseen ran out, and he was discovered by Ragna. She found him to be "cute," and, instead of driving him off, decided to let him stay with her and her brother. Eventually, Glade learned how to converse with her, and later decided to stay with her when the Boreas group were given the orders to return home.
He remained a permanent companion of Ragna's from there on out, going with her on missions, and, even acting as an asset to their sorties. He was there for her when she lost many of her family to the Sctintilla coyotes, and is one of the few to have ever seen beneath her hard exterior mask. When Ragna was one of the few selected to go northeast to Nova Scotia in a second war against two faraway packs, Glade went with her.
In the aftermath of defeat, Glade remained at Ragna’s side after Snorri Niequist died, and was her sole, intelligent companion for a year while she moved from place to place in the northeastern lands. Eventually, they were met by Felix Nightlark, who tried to coax Ragna into thinking about living with a group again. It was Glade who ultimately convinced Ragna to, truly, consider the invitation, and they became part of the founding group that created Mistfell Vale.
