Reykja Helsi a wolf and member of Salsola, where she was born and raised. She is the only daughter of Kynda Helsi and Hugleikr Silfr. She and her childhood friend Blair Eternity are involved in a relationship and live together. They have one son, though he is being raised by Salsola's Boss Salvia Eternity, Blair's mother.

Following tradition, Reykja is a völva (witch-woman); many members of her family display "magical" prowess. She has a notable singing voice and knows an extensive amount of lore. Beyond this she is a talented craftsman and leather-worker, known for her uniquely colored items. Reykja applies much of her "magic" during the process of her goods creation.

She continues to train under the tutelage of her mother while living in Fort Preble, Salsola's Portland Outpost.

PLOT OPPORTUNITY!

OOC ASSUMPTIONS!

  • Reykja's is a relatively new "independent" witch, having her apprenticeship under her grandmother Siv Helsi come to an abrupt and fiery end. Looking to grow her talents, Reykja makes various charms and "enchants" raw and finished materials -- who doesn't want in on that?

Salsola members may assume and reference the following without discussion/asking:

  • Seeing Reykja around Fort Preble, especially with Blair Eternity, Kynda Helsi, or her animal companions.
  • Seeing Reykja working; when she is tanning or dyeing materials a strong smell tends to linger in the air. She often cooks as well, or experiments with "spells" that have notable scents.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Essentials

Tall and entirely wolfish, Reykja has a strong profile and exceptionally thick pelt. With the exception of her dark mask and equally dark coloring, she shows agouti characteristics -- especially along her spine and tail.

She has notable purple eyes, a trademark of the Helsi line.

Reykjas is very fast and relatively strong due to her size, though her build reflects the former more apparently. She has a rectangular build most notable in her Optime form; on four legs, she's oddly "fluffy" for a wolf.

  • Scars: Reykja has the Hand of Eris on her upper left ribcage, cut carefully close to her underarm.
  • Humanization: Yes, high.
    • Jewelry: She always wears a blue quartz necklace.
      • Notable Accessories: Reykja's ears are pierced; she has several earrings of various make, including several gold variations. She often wears a circular Tree of Life pendant made of embossed leather covering wood. Often wears gold and pearl bracelets. As she regularly styles her hair in complex braids, Reykja has an absurd collection of hair ties -- one to match every possible color combination she might need.
    • Gear: Varied; Reykja has several "outfits" of her own making and alternates between these. She tends to wear dyed items, favoring black and purple in her designs. More often than not she will use gold-toned or white leather for accent pieces.
      • Notable Accessories: White leather belt, white leather medicine bag with black raven banner motif, waterproofed leather pouch.
    • Weapons: Working knife; wooden handle, Luperci-made blade. Kept very sharp. Reykja always carries her knife in her larger pouch.

Interaction

  • Scent: Smoke, flowers, cats, Blair Eternity, horse.
  • Speech: Reykja has an airy voice and tends to enunciate with curious notes; she pronounces certain words with an almost Scandinavian flare, and drags out her "s" sounds notably.
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: Having spent a good deal of her youth learning to "be seen and not heard", Reykja often disengages from conversations. She has a tendency to daydream and get caught up in her own thoughts. She looks at people when she talks to them, though tries not to look down on them (height aside), with Outsiders being the exception to this rule.
  • General Posture and Body Language: Reykja is very good at looking casual and comfortable in most settings, regardless of her actual feelings. She has good posture and often stands with her hands behind her back. Though she is quick to show submission to superiors, she very much reflects the attitude and behavior of her peer group -- she very much "goes with the flow".

Coloration

  • Markings:
    • Reykja is largely gray all over – her underside and legs lighten considerably to a silvery color, while simultaneously darkening to various shades near-black. She has a dark muzzle and mask, and dark ears. Her tail-tip is similarly dark, as are the ends of fur along her haunches. This color spreads along her back and shoulders, and runs from here to the top of her skull.
    • Optime Hair: Very long, very dark Mirage.

2.  Personality

Socialite - Spirited Young Lady

Raised in a family of prestige and renown, Reykja's early childhood afforded her the luxury of life that she has since come to expect. She enjoys things being comfortable in all matters, from living quarters to her interactions with others. This is in part what makes her agreeable to the lifestyle and teachings of Salsola, though her own natural drive to be “part of the group” encourages her choices. She is well-educated and though she may not correct others, she is quick to notice their mistakes. Reykja is far more involved in matters that relate to things she excels in, and will be more vocal when it comes to the discussion of these.

4.  Skills and Inventory

4.1  Abilities

Spiritual

  • Education and Learning: Since birth (or perhaps even before this), Reykja has been brought up filling the role of apprentice to Salsola's Crone (and self-proclaimed Fyrstrvölva), Siv Helsi. Largely raised by her grandmother, Reykja was exposed to many of the secret lore and rituals from Hearg Njorth. She is a regular participant of rituals within Salsola.
  • Storytelling: Reykja knows a wide variety of Norse-inspired mythology, though often adapts these idea to Luperci-terms during her retellings. She is very animated when she retells stories.
  • Divination: By using Runes, cards, smoke, and sometimes seemingly-random objects, Reykja foretells of events-to-come and offers advice from the gods.
  • Healing: Though hardly a medic of note, Reykja knows basic first-aid principles. She is capable of sewing a wound shut and producing simple poultices, cleansing rinses, or herbal teas. Reykja is a fan of aromatherapy and seems very interested in applying this to her work.
  • Reykja has an exceptionally good singing voice. She has a wide vocal range and is capable of reasonable imitations of both animals and other Luperci.
  • A large part of magic is the art of illusion, and Reykja employs a wide variety of ritual clothing used to change her appearance, including masks and "paint".

Craftsmanship

  • Education and Learning: Following in the family footsteps, Reykja was trained in the art of leather-working by her mother and grandmother. She spent much of her youth preparing hides and furs alongside the latter, and has gained experience simply by means of supply -- something which Blair Eternity has helped to provide.
  • Tanning: Well-familiarized with the process, Reykja is very good about the preparation of her hides and leathers. She rarely makes mistakes and maximizes the usable material from skins.
  • Observation: Owing largely to her own desire for perfection, attention to detail is a must. Reykja studies things of interest to her or in her immediate surroundings. She is very good at listening, retaining information, and recalling conversations.
  • Reykja is also capable of producing dye. She uses this on a variety of objects with varying success; though her failures sometimes produce curious results.
    • Though she rarely produces it, believing the process and purpose of the material to be sacred, Reykja is capable of making white leather.

Animal Husbandry

  • Education and Learning: A fondness for animals has long existed in Reykja, especially when she was given a horse at an early age. Much of her education came from assisting her grandmother. She gained further information through Kimbee? and Blair.
  • Reykja loves horses, and is capable of caring for them. She knows more about healing horses than she does training them, however; she wouldn't have any idea what to do with a green horse.
  • Falconry is another subject that excites Reykja, who does know how to train birds of prey. She is singularly experienced with golden eagles.
  • For Reykja, there is a big difference between a "pet", a "working animal", livestock, and wildlife. It is unlikely she would eat or skin a pet, and a beloved working animal would fall into this school of thought. Her romanticism for "lesser" animals ends there; she cares about the well-being of these creatures but recognizes their purpose, ultimately, is one of consumption.
  • Reykja harvests supplies from animals. She uses every part of a kill.

4.2  Trade

Reykja is a Tradesman of Salsola though works largely through her partner Blair Eternity (who often uses her alias Macha). She very rarely is present outside of Salsola unless accompanied by Blair, and will often defer to her companion when it comes to negotiations. Despite this, Reykja knows exactly what her work is worth; making a low offer on her goods will offend her and exponentially decrease her likelihood of trading.

  • Offering: Custom-tailored leather clothing, bags of various sizes, specialized leather pieces, hides and furs, feathers, bones, dyed products (leather, furs, feathers).
  • Accepting: Certain plants, raw material, unique items, raven products (feathers, bones, etc), horse tack + supplies, jewelry.

Born on a warm summer evening, Reykja Helsi was the first child born to newly-mated pair Kynda Helsi and Hugleikr Silfr, a union orchestrated largely by her grandmother Siv Helsi, then the Crone of Salsola.

Initially raised by her parents in their home, Reykja spent her early childhood in an idyllic world. She was quick to befriend Blair Eternity, who seemed quite content to pal around with the younger girl. Though their friendship was initially encouraged by the Helsi family, as the two grew older it became apparent there was a mutual attraction between them. Siv began taking steps to gain control of her granddaughter, starting with pushing her parents into moving to the Salsola Outpost...while leaving their daughter behind. After eventually wearing them down, this happened. She continued applying her influence as to who Reykja should be spending time with (encouraging even limiting her contact with her own cousins). Reykja began living with the Crone and serving as her apprentice.

The role quickly proved to be one of physical labor as much as it was a spiritual one. Reykja performed many chores alongside Serf Kimbee?, who had long been a servant of her family. He proved to be a reliable friend to her, especially when she sometimes snuck off for rendezvous with Blair. By then, she was spending more of her free time alongside both Blair and Morgana Revlis, the niece of Lord Commander Lokr Revlis. The trio experimented with many things, including alcohol and drugs, though a particularly frightening incident led Reykja to limit her use of these things to ritualistic purposes only – though even then, sparingly.

She spent much of her youth improving her skills and doing her best to meet Siv's expectations, but her continuous involvement with Blair proved to be a point of contention. Tensions grew between the two before erupting into physical violence, leaving Reykja shaken. Her faith was ultimately put to the test in April, when a red star fell from the sky. A confrontation between Siv and Blair turned explosive, and fearing that her grandmother would kill her girlfriend (and perhaps her), Reykja stabbed the old woman with her hunting spear. This was likely the fatal wound that killed Siv, though a fire consumed the scene not long after – swallowing the Helsi yurt with all three women still inside. Reykja dragged Blair from the fire, saving both their lives in the process. Reykja was vital in Blair's recovery, and the two lived temporarily in Reykja's family home before assuming ownership of the Watchtower. Not long after this the two women were formally mated by the new Crone, Loki Helsi. Not long after this, Blair approached Reykja with a request for children -- blood-children sired by her brother. This was a traumatic experience for Reykja, who was taken aback by Dullahan's physical, sexual aggression.

Reykja gave birth to a singular son in late summer. At the request of Boss Salvia Eternity, and much to Reykja's delight, the pair shortly thereafter were relocated to Fort Preble. Only a few months later, however, Salvia returned and requested that O'Riley be raised in Salsola-proper. Blair and Reykja acquiesced to the Boss, and while this dampened Reykja's spirits immensely, she threw herself into work with her mother.
