Assuming the mantle of Oldest, Malachi -- fueled by the consistent besting of his brawling brothers -- thinks very highly of himself; showing this in both the intensely self-assured way which he carries himself, and the genuinely arrogant belief that he's always right. Though his personality is generally militant, making himself seem a hard and unyielding fellow, he shows an almost invariable degree of emotional sensitivity and is easily the quickest of the four to enact violence.
Beneath their mother's strict regime, each son has been shaped into talented brawlers and half-literate scholars. They have achieved the mastery of at least one weapon, and any additional aptitudes discovered -- as individual fancies developed -- were nurtured and facilitated to the best of Kali's abilities as they traveled.
Malachi's specific talents include: horse-breaking, swordsmanship, and falconry.

3. Relationships
The boys were raised with the belief that their father was Rook, and the truth of their conception remained a secret until Kali decided to explain it to them nearing their first birthday. After this revelation, the boys began to show a lack of any distinguishable regard for the existence of "blood relatives".
Despite his personal feelings for any member of his "family", given the opportunity, Malachi would readily give his life for any of them. (Except, Rook. He can die.)
Other: Nadya and Tsuban Barranquilla are considered his aunt and uncle, respectively.
Lineage: Through his mother, Malachi is related to the massive de le Poer family, which links him to countless others living within Nova Scotia or in its surrounding territories. He has no knowledge of his paternal line and no desire to explore it.
Kali is his mother, and probably the only one on earth he truly admires. He has fantasized about being with her, but knows his honest affection for her is wrong and has never acted on it. He does not believe any woman could ever compare (let alone compete) with his mother.
Rook, Malachi's adoptive father, is an unwitting target for his son's thinly veiled contempt. Malachi thinks Rook is too passive and subservient, and never saw any similarities between himself and the former slave. He remains civil with the dog if only because he's never actually done anything wrong. (And because Kali is ridiculously protective of her powderpuff hubby.)
Nadya is his adoptive aunt. He adores her cooking (like everyone else) and took her Spanish teachings more seriously than his brothers.
Tsuban is his adoptive uncle, and skilled crafter. He silently teaches the boys how to build or make things.
Urijah, Malachi's least-favorite brother, is a huge pain in the ass. Polar opposites, it seems like, he often feels as if Urijah is trying to piss him off on purpose -- which he is.
Jericho?, his favorite brother, is his closest confidant and has the only opinion (aside from his own and their mother's) that Malachi is willing to consider. He thinks Jericho is the only one not trying to upset him in some way.
Barnabas is Malachi's baby brother. There is a strain on their relationship, but only because they share no common interests. On more than one occasion he's attempted to define a link between them, but Barnabas is uncooperative on that front.
