Barnabas de le Poer (bar-na-bus) is the last-born son of Kali de le Poer, among brothers Malachi, Urijah, and Jericho ?; all four of which are the product of rape.

Sidling between Eeyore and crotchety old man, Barnabas seems to stay in a perpetually sour or disinterested mood. His interests had always differed from that of his siblings, singling him out early on in that aspect, but his genuine belief in magic and omens almost alienated him completely.

Beneath their mother's strict regime, each son has been shaped into talented brawlers and half-literate scholars. They have achieved the mastery of at least one weapon, and any additional aptitudes discovered -- as individual fancies developed -- were nurtured and facilitated to the best of Kali's abilities as they traveled.

Barnabas's specific talents include: knife-wielding, sleight-of-hand, animal husbandry, botany, divination, and witchcraft.

3. Relationships

The boys were raised with the belief that their father was Rook, and the truth of their conception remained a secret until Kali decided to explain it to them nearing their first birthday. After this revelation, the boys began to show a lack of any distinguishable regard for the existence of "blood relatives".

Barnabas is dutiful to his family but is uninterested in the things that they like. At all times he's intensely aware that he's the black sheep out of them all.

Extended: Marlowe de le Poer (uncle), Agrippa de le Poer (aunt)	Other: Nadya and Tsuban Barranquilla are considered his aunt and uncle, respectively. Lineage: Through his mother, Barnabas is related to the massive de le Poer family, which links him to countless others living within Nova Scotia or in its surrounding territories. He has no knowledge of his paternal line and no desire to explore it.
Kali is Barnabas' mother, and has always supported his pursuits even if she didn't understand it. He doesn't know that she tried to drown him when he was young, and is actually the source of his inner despondency. Kali has doted on him every day since in secret apology. Rook, his adoptive father, is steadfast and easy for him to be around since neither of them talk much. Nadya is his adoptive aunt. He adores her cooking (like everyone else) and appreciates her teaching him botany and Spanish. Tsuban is his adoptive uncle, and skilled crafter. He silently teaches the boys how to build or make things.	Malachi, Barnabas' brother, is overbearing and constantly trying to get him to engage physically rather than mentally. Urijah, his brother, is just super annoying. He's found that the best way to get rid of him is to react as little as possible. Jericho ?, his brother, is the only one that shows interest in his pursuits, and actively tries to participate with him.
