Born to a frivolous mother; who danced in a different tavern each week, and as rumour had it, a different man or women to go with the change of location, Ansel and his brother were given to the care of Colette and her mate Yanis after the recent loss of the pairs own litter. Colette, little more than a humble tavern owner living in south-western village Urrugne, France, took in the boys as if they were her own, grateful for the chance to be a mother in the loss of her own, not questioning the reasons of the dancer or trying to convince her otherwise.
Yanis and Colette eventually managed to have a litter of their own, a small boy surviving, a younger brother: Antoine. Unfortunately for the small family, the toll of childbirth was heavy upon Colette, the once vibrant women passing a few days after the birth of her son. Having long held resentment over the boys that were not his sons, lost in his grief, Yanis, lashed out, forcing the boys from their home with unchecked violence. They returned that night, in silence, taking what little they owned and continuing to take out of necessity and spite.
Trading what alcohol and other goods the brothers had managed to steal from the heist of the place they'd once called home, they acquired passage on the maritime route from Lisbon to Barbados, heading to the waters once again to that of Freetown. They may never have known much of their biological family, aside from gossip, but they'd been assured that if they ever needed to seek blood, needed refuge or a home, there was one places they'd assuredly find family of some kind.
Currently Ansel is a loner, travelling with his brother Ryker Asylum.

1.1 Basics
Essentials
- Species: Overall, Ansel looks like a standard dog hybrid, resembling no specific breed, with his Saluki heritage only showing in his face. Notable features include large floppy ears, long tail and small paws.
- Fur: Long and wavy, Ansel's fur is light weight and fine all over, moving constantly and easily tangled. Markings are as a result often distorted from the constant moving. Whilst his coat might look warm, it doesn't really provide him much protection against the weather.
- Optime Hair: Reaching to his waist, his hair in optime form is long and fine, primarily in cream tones, although the tips are paler / almost white from sun exposure. Typically braided to keep it out of the way.
- Facial Features: Slim facial features, show casing his Saluki heritage the most; although his face isn't as narrow as that of a Saluki, with more roundness to the muzzle, of which is typical length for a coyote.
- Build and Size: Average height, with a very slim build in general; muscles somewhat defined from how skinny he is, not because he actually works for them.
- Lupus: Standing around average height for a coyote, Anssel appears smaller due to his slim build; narrow waist, shoulders and chest.

Once a shy, quiet child, his clumsy nature with both speech, social engagements and physically often made him stand out, which was never a good thing. Even as a small child, unable to shift, Ansel found himself subject to being ridiculed by the inns regulars who had known his mother, getting cat called and yelled at to dance, or was otherwise inappropriately addressed by the drunken customers. Crumbling under the stress of having to help out his family and work among those who seemed to enjoy treating him in such a way, his social anxiety flared until he withdrew further and further into himself. And stopped communicating altogether.
A once caring and emphatic nature became twisted, morphing into a jaded echo of what it was once, Ansel constantly over thinking everything, reading too much in the actions of others, expecting the worst and forever picking faults in anything and everything.
However, it wasn't all bad – Ryker and Colette, his adoptive mother, helped him grow more confident, building him up so that he could be himself around them. When in a situation where he is comfortable, Ansel is sarcastic, quick with a quip, anti-social and gestures more than he talks; but that's just how he is, not his anxiety, just simple anti-social tendencies. Possessive of those who he gets close to, Ansel is prone to extreme jealousy and doesn't share friends or anything well with others.

Ryker is often a bad influence to be around and usually the cause of every bad situation the two find themselves in. Due to fear of complete abandonment, Ansel is clingy and very jealous towards anyone who goes near his sibling, which Ryker encourages because he enjoys the attention.
