1.  Description

In the early 1980s, a group moved to the Fundy National Park without the government's permission. They were primitivists -- that is, they had a strong desire to live on the land and avoid the trappings of modern life. Their preoccupation with simple living did not save them from the virus, however, and they were exterminated as with the rest of humanity. Many chose to live in earth shelters -- e.g., homes built into the hillside itself. Much evidence of their existence had been reclaimed by the forest, however, many of the primitive structures underwent Luperci reconstruction and renovation.

2.  Landmarks

2.1  The Hill Homes

What was once Vinátta’s Jordheim Village was the residential area for the pack. The houses themselves are built with little organisation and sit hickledy-pickledy in the valley where the village still stands. The houses are constructed of stone and brick underneath, but blend well into the scenery due to the large amount of earth and grass that mold them into the hill and valley. With a small porch area (showing the building materials beneath the earth), beautiful wooden doors, and thick glass windows, it is not difficult to understand how these structures have withstood all nature can throw at them. After the disbandment of Vinátta, the area was moved into and renovated by the members of Bête Noire in the winter of 2019-2020.

2.2  The Rest Stop

East of The Hill Homes village is the Rest Stop, built in the summer of 2012 by a dedicated group of Vináttans with the help of a Cercatori member who was indebted to assist on the construction. It was previously known as the Sveit Village Hall. Notably, this building once housed a detailed map of the territory, as well as the pack's Almanac. In the spring of 2020, Bête Noire began using this structure as a Rest Stop for weary travelers, where they offered food, drink, and their services as hired workers and mercenaries in exchange for useful items and resources or labor. The Rest Stop restaurant is run by head chef Manitou King, as well as Uriah Greyfire, and Besekel Greyfire. The structure has been added onto in the past year, turned into a working restaurant divided into kitchen space and dining space by a long counter. Outside there is a small stable structure and hitching post for horses, as well as two new pens to house Bête Noire's livestock, one of which contains a hutch for their rabbits.

2.3  The Gardens

West of the hill homes is where Vinátta's communal herb garden, created by Saul Stormbringer and Colibri Haki in their first month of residence. Herbs and wildflowers with medicinal properties were gathered and grown here for the good of the pack. Witch-hazel, Meadowsweet, Common Sage, Catnip, and Chamomile are just a few of the many plants here, which were free for all members to use and tend to. There were also a raspberry bushes and several apple saplings flourishing in the back. Though the garden had gone untended for a time, many of the herbs and plants continued to flourish here, the apple trees and raspberry bushes having grown into a grove, and remnants of the old garden having been re-tended by Besekel Greyfire, Seira Greyfire, and Whisper Mayflower. Bête Noire Has also planted another garden beside The Rest Stop, consisting mainly of garden fruits and vegetables, as well as herbs and spices intended for cooking.

2.4  Evergreen Tangles

A mixed wood of evergreen trees and bramble creates a literal maze of paths and nooks through otherwise thick, impassable forest. These paths lead both further into and away from the territory and entrances are harder to find during the warmer seasons, when plants grow thick around them. Ferns, fiddleheads and vines grow freely along the paths' edges, making for an exotic appearance. Deep in the center of all of these paths, a more cultivated tunnel has been named the Kissing Trees. At one point two separate columns of trees have bowed together, branches entangled like lovers. In the autumn, berries adorn the Kissing Trees. At the end of the tunnel, a small clearing gives a secluded spot to those who can find their way here. (Created by Sky & Rat)

3.  Waterways

3.1  The Bathing Pools

Hidden among the overgrown hiking trails of the Fundy National Park is a collection of small waterfalls previously known as Futhark Falls by Vinátta. The fresh water falls into shallow pools, trickling over mossy rocks along the slope or splashing down in larger cascades, and tastes of the mountains. Vegetation grows thick here, and other than a few broad streams branching away or feeding into the falls, there is little danger of raging rapids forming. Just a small way down this steep slope, the ground levels out and shows one particularly old and gnarled oak that has borne the brunt of time and is scarred from the carvings of human couples. A sturdy rope has been tied over one of the old limbs, hanging out over the shallow, clear water with a petrified branch serving as a seat of sorts to make a swing. (Created by Raze & Djiacamo)

3.2  Hart Pond

Near the most North Western part of Fundy National Park, hidden behind Jordheim and the thick woodland, is a small and colorful clearing, dotted with wildflowers and all but hidden by towering trees. The pond is a few feet in diameter, bordered by grass and rushes, and populated with amphibians and many aquatic plants, some of which may be useful in herbalism. The pond is frequented by many smaller animals seeking water, if they can get through the trees, but also by deer. Occasionally a stag might be spotted – hence the pond's name – but the more obvious signs are parts of antlers which have been broken or shed, which can be found buried among the thick bushes on the edge of the clearing. 4.  History

  • This area was claimed by Vinátta from May 2012 to June 2017.
  • In December of 2019 it was occupied by the Greyfire family. In February of 2020, they formed the loner band Bête Noire who still occupies the area.
